So to be sure you like your diaper bag, we recommend that you sew it yourself, using our tutorial.
Here is the list of materials needed:
The bag measures 34 cm in length by 21 cm in height and 18 cm in width, to do this you will need:
- 90 cm of fabric (plain or with pattern, quilted or water-repellent fabric) in 140 cm width:
- 90 cm of cotton lining, cretonne type, 140 cm wide
- 2.20m of webbing
- 2.30 m bias
- A 55 cm zipper
- Scissors
- A ruler
- Pins
- The pattern of the bag
Step 1: The Boss
Print and fold the pattern following the logical order of the pattern folding diagram. Seam allowances are included in the pattern.
Step 2: Cutting the fabric
Cut out the fabric and the cotton lining in the shape of the body of the bag (part A). Once the operation has been carried out, mark on these two parts the reference marks annotated on pattern A, using pins .
Then cut out two patch pockets using pattern B.

Step 3: The edge of the pockets
To complete the patch pockets, cut a piece of bias corresponding to the left side of pattern B: it will correspond to the top of the pocket. Unfold one side of the bias binding and pin it to the edge of the long side of the pocket, against the wrong side of the fabric. Pin 1 cm from the edge. Fold the bias to the right side of the fabric. Topstitch on the right side 1 mm from the edge of the bias.
Step 4: Assemble the pockets
Stitch the patch pocket using pins, on the body of the bag, right sides together, placing the large side without bias on the line formed by the 4 marks at the bottom of the strap. Cut the strap into two parts of 1m10.
Pin each strap end to the bottom strap marking, over the patch pockets. Stitch the patch pocket on the body, 1 cm from the edge of the large side, also including the ends of the strap.

Step 5: Attaching the straps
Place the strap on the body of the bag up to the marks on the top of the bag. Topstitch both sides of each strap 1 mm from the edge up to the height of the pocket top mark.
Step 6: Creating Pocket Compartments
Fold the patch pocket to the right side, the pocket is then over the topstitched straps. Carefully pin the edges of the pocket with the unsewn edges of the bag.
Next, stitch the pocket to the body of the bag at each middle strap location. This makes it possible to form 3 compartments in the patch pocket.
Then, make a holding stitch 5 mm from the edge on each side of the pocket by stitching the edges of the body of the bag at the same time. Repeat steps 3 to 6 for the other pocket on the other side of the bag.
Step 7: The zipper
Cut a piece of bias , and fold it at each end of the zip, thus coating the front and back of the zipper. Pin and topstitch 1 mm on each side of the bias.
Place the zipper along the top edge of the bag, right sides together. Pin the top edge of the lining over the wrong side of the zipper and to the body of the bag right sides together.
Stitch with the special zipper foot 1 cm from the edge.
Cut with scissors, seam allowance at 5 mm.
Step 8: Finishing the bias
Fold over the place. Topstitch the bias , on the body of the bag along the closure, 1 mm from the edge.
Repeat steps 7-8 for the other side of the zipper.
Step 9: The bottom of the diaper bag
Cut two pieces on the bias, the length should match the width of the bag.
Pin the bias right sides together on each end of the zipper. Stitch in the fold 1 cm from the edge. Open the zip to its full length.
To create the side seam, pin the short side of the bottom of the bag to the edge of the previously prepared zipper with the binding, right sides together.
Repeat this with the lining and pin to the outer side seam of the bag. Stitch using a machine 1 cm from the edge.
Step 10: Attaching the bias to the bottom of the bag
On the right side, turn the bias binding over the body of the bag and topstitch 1 mm from the edge .
Step 11: Assembly
Fold the bag inside out. Secure independently, using pins, the seam allowances of the bag edges of the lining and the outside of the bag, right sides together. Keep one edge of the lining unsewn to fold the bag right side out. Machine stitch 1 cm from the edge of all previously pinned seam allowances.
Step 12: Opening
Fold the bag over to work on the right side of the lining. Pin the unsewn opening of the lining and topstitch at 1 mm .
Your changing bag is now ready to follow you throughout the day. It will be able to accommodate items essential to the well-being of your newborn, such as nappies, creams, bodysuits and small pots.
